In July of this year, something pretty special happened in Ottawa, Illinois.
On their 13th attempt, 164 skydivers jumped from 7 well choreographed aircraft at an altitude of 20,000 feet to set the record of the largest “heads down” formation. Falling at speeds of up to 240 mph, each skydiver managed to be in his/her position and hold the formation for the required minimum 3 seconds. Not an easy fate. You can see it on the video here.
As a skydiver myself, who has logged 1,000 jumps and has spent over 20 hours of my life literally free-falling at an average speed of 120 mph, I was actually more stunned when, on February 8, 2006, the news broke that 400 skydivers from 30 countries and part of the World Team established the largest freefall formation in Udon, Thailand, 270 miles north of Bangkok. The formation was held for over 4 seconds and was logged by the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale (FAI) as the world record still standing today. See a really cool video here.
Why, you may be asking, is this relevant to Blue Dots, a management consulting firm focused on helping companies realize their revenue growth potential?
Here’s the answer: a rigorous approach and methodology.
Just as skydivers should never, ever, be reckless or cavalier about their techniques, at Blue Dots we take our methodological approach to advising companies on top-line revenue growth very seriously.
Skydivers follow sanctioned FAA rules and regulations and focus on careful planning, flawless execution and a quest for perfection.
Similarly, our work involves very careful planning and understanding of the market dynamics in which the company operates.
Those skydivers could have never achieved their record without perfect alignment.
And just like those skydivers, we too, focus on perfect alignment.
